BANGALORE: Fuel Adjustment Cost (FAC) of one paise per unit will now be added to your electricity bill. To put it simply, it is a hike of one paise per unit of power in BESCOM's area of supply including Bangalore city, Bangalore rural, Davanagere, Tunkur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Ramnagara and Chikkaballapura districts across all sections of consumers. This will be reflected in the billing cycle of July, August and September. KERC notified as per FAC regulations March 2013, the ESCOMs are allowed to claim changes in variable cost of power purchase over and above the approved tariff on a quarterly basis and this happens mostly due to fuel price hike. This helps the companies recover the extra cost incurred for the purpose. During the previous three quarters in 2014 fiscal between April and December, Commission did not allow FAC claims. Now this FAC will be collected for July—September 2014 to make up for January to April months. A total of Rs 28.88 crore was claimed by the five companies supplying power of which KERC has approved to collect a total of Rs 15.80 crore in its order on June 23 and for BESCOM, the approved claim of FAC is Rs 5.79 crores. -TOI
