Bhatkal 22 Aug 2017: Almost a year after the Jali patan Panchayath elections in which Abdul Rahim Shaikh was elected the president of Jali Patan Panchayath, Bhatkallys.com reporter Rizwan Gangavali inspected the Panchayath area along with Patan Panchayath standing committee chairman Adam Shaikh. What Rizwan discovered was the poor conditions of the roads with water-filled potholes due to the rains over the last few days causing inconvenience to the locals, in some wards it was reported that it was about 35-40 years back when the roads construction took place the last time and since then the locals are only left complaining about it.
When Bhatkallys.com tried speaking to a few residents of such areas, the residents complained about the fair share of their income being collected from them on the name of taxes and the administration’s failure to use the collected tax money for the welfare of the locals.
When contacted, Jali patan Panchayath officials passed the blames on one another to escape our questions. Some used the excuse of the ‘limited time’ of one year that they have been in office and everything could not be done in a period of one year, while some blamed the unavailability of an assigned engineer for Patan Panchayath and said currently TMC engineer himself is looking after both TMC and Jali Patan Panchayath area making it difficult for administration to get the work done efficiently from him. Some officials also blamed the unreleased funds for lack of development in these areas.

Bhatkallys.com also spoke to Patan Panchayath president Abdul Rahim Shaikh, and discussed the findings of the survey conducted by us, to which he said, he and his team has been working to the best of their abilities for the development of the Patan Panchayath area and a period of one year is not enough to get all the developmental work done. He also assured of completing all the pending road works within a period of three months.
He further argued about how people should co-operate with the administration and their ward members in a bid to make it easy for them to solve the issues of people. He also urged people to discuss their problems with the Panchayath members and bring it to their notice so they can come out with solutions to it.
He also lauded the efforts and support from MLA Mankal Vaidya who he said was committed in developing the rural areas of the town. Abdul Rahim Shaikh then said, the Panchayath members, administration and the residents should walk hand in hand without any personal grudges and gains to develop the panchayath area.
Our reporter also felt there was a need of keeping a check on the candidates selected by Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem and their work progress in a bid to solve the local issues and keep a track of developmental work in Panchayath.
Bhatkallys.com requests its readers to take media houses into consideration as well and discuss their issues and problems with us, to project their problems before the administrations. So that we as the media as well can contribute to the developmental work of the town.
