Excise officials seize illicit liquor at Shiroor, arrest two

Kundapur: Kundapur excise officials on Tuesday December 24 seized several bottles of liquor that were being illegally transported from Goa to Mangalore by bus. Based on credible information, the excise officials seized the liquor at Shiroor check post early morning. The bus was also seized. Prakash Nayak from Goa and Tumkur resident Srinivasa Moorthy were arrested. The police seized 21.180 litres of Goa liquor worth Rs 25,000. The Volvo AC bus of Paulo Travels which was also seized is said to be valued at Rs 35 lac. The excise officials have said that the owner of the bus is yet to be arrested. It is said that the liquor is valued between Rs 100 to several thousands per bottle. Illegal liquor transportation is said to be taking place for sometime.  The excise officials had enforced nakabandi after they received definite information. Excise sub-inspector Vinod Kumar, Kundapur division excise inspector H Shanker, Kundapur region’s V Manjunath, staff Raviraj Annigeri, K Shanker, Chandrashekar and driver Sudhakar participated in the operation.
