Excise department seizes illegal alcohol worth Rs. 73000 being smuggled into Honnavar

Honnavar 29 December 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Excise officials of Honnavar Taluka on Friday seized alcohol worth Rs.73,100/-  and seized the car used for smuggling it from Goa here at Karsarkod of Honnavar. Based on a instructions by the deputy commissioner of Excise L Manjunath, the excise officials on Friday around 4.45 am chased the car belonging to Mithun Chandra Mesta from Hirematt of Kasarkod. As the accused noticed that his car was being chased, he stopped the car and escaped into the dark. Upon inspection of the car, the officials found 7 bags consisting of 396 bottles of various brands worth Rs.73,100/-. They also seized the alto car which is estimated at Rs.1,50,000/- which was used for smuggling. Speaking to the Media Honnavar Excise official Damodar Naik said, “We had already raided many places near Tonka of Karsarkod as many have indulged themselves in selling alcohol illegally. As its the season of Christmas and New Year, we have formed a special team to keep a check on these activities". However, cases has been booked on  Mithun Chandra Mesta and Nitesh Chandra Mesta of Hiremat by the excise officials. Excise officials including Mahendra Naik, Damodar Naik, Shridhar Madival, D N Sirsikar, Gajanan Naik, Manjunath Naik, Gowrish Gowda, Syed Hameed, S K Vaidya and others were part of the operation.
