Bhatkal, 29 March,2026: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) A brief tense situation prevailed in Bhatkal on Saturday after municipal authorities removed a flag installed near the Idgah ground on Bandar Road as part of Eid-ul-Fitr arrangements.
Following the removal, hundreds of people gathered at the spot and expressed their anger, alleging that the action had hurt religious sentiments. The protest led to disruption of traffic in the Bunder Road area for some time.
Police officials, including DySP Girish B., CPI Divakar P.M., PSI Naveen Naik and Rural Police Inspector Venkatesh Murnaal, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. They held discussions with the protesters and managed to pacify them.
With timely intervention by the police, the situation was stabilised. Tight security has been deployed in the area. Authorities have appealed to the public not to believe in rumours and to maintain peace and communal harmony.
Reacting to the incident, Tanzeem leader Maulana Azizurrahman Ruknuddin expressed concern over the flag removal.
“Law should be equal for everyone in India. There cannot be one rule for Hindus and another for Muslims. Saffron flags have been installed in several places, including on government land, and those should be removed first,” he said.
He further stated that targeting only the religious flag put up during Eid has caused resentment among youth in the community and stressed that rules must be applied uniformly.
