'Every Day Hundreds Of Dog Bites': Supreme Court Takes Suo Motu Cognizance Of Report On Stray Dogs Attacking Kids In Delhi

The Supreme Court today(July 28) took suo motu cognisance of a news item titled "City hounded by strays and kids pay price" published in today's Delhi edition of Times of India. It has registered a writ petition taking cognisance of how infants, children and the aged are falling prey to rabies disease because of unvaccinated stray dogs. A bench comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan issued an order directing: "Week has started and the first thing we should do is to take suo moto cognizance of a very disturbing and alarming news item reported by Times of India in its today Delhi edition titled "City hounded by strays and kids pay price". The news item contains some alarming and disturbing figures and facts. Every day, hundreds of dog bites reported in cities and areas in the outskirts, leading to rabies and ultimately young infants, children and aged are following prey to this dreadful disease. The news item is attached herewith. Let this order be placed, we take suo moto cognisance of this news item. Registry shall register the petition and register it as suo moto. Let order be placed with news report before hon'ble CJI for appropriate orders"
