Engineering student commits suicide by jumping from sixth floor in Karnataka

In tragic incident, a 20-year-old engineering student committed suicide by jumping from the Mechanical engineering department building at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) campus.
The deceased has been identified as Anand Pathak, a resident of Maharashtra. Anand Pathak was a student of third year mechanical engineering.
Sources said he jumped from the 6th floor of the mechanical engineering department building.
According to the students, a professor from the Mechanical engineering department threatened Anand because of a shortage of attendance. The professor allegedly told the victim that he will not become an engineer and will fail the exam.
It is also alleged that the same professor continuously snubbed Anand which made him take the fatal step.
Students in the campus held protests demanding justice and that the professor who allegedly humiliated Anand to be taken to task immediately.
It is said that three students have committed suicide in the past due to alleged harassment at the hands of their their professors.
