Emission test certificates likely to become more expensive in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Aug 12: Emission test certificates in Karnataka may soon become more expensive, as the Association of Owners of Karnataka Emission Testing Centres has requested a price revision from transport minister Ramalinga Reddy. The association cited rising costs, including rent, equipment, salaries, and overheads, as reasons for the proposed increase.

According to the association, the last price hike occurred three years ago. Currently, emission test certificates cost Rs 65 for two-wheelers, Rs 75 for three-wheelers, Rs 115 for four-wheeler petrol vehicles, and Rs 160 for four-wheeler diesel vehicles.

The association has urged the state government to increase the emission testing fees to Rs 110 for two-wheelers, Rs 100 for auto-rickshaws, Rs 200 for petrol and CNG four-wheelers, and Rs 250 for diesel vehicles.

Yogesh, the president of the Association of Owners of Karnataka Emission Testing Centres, said, "It has been three years since emission testing prices were last revised in Karnataka. With over 2,600 emission testing centers across the state, including 700 in Bengaluru alone, we are facing rising costs from petrol pump rent, equipment, and staff salaries. To manage these increasing expenses, we have requested transport minister Ramalinga Reddy to approve a price hike."
