Elections for the post of Municipal President and Vice President on October 22 in Bhatkal have been postponed

Bhatkal: Oct 21, 2020 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Elections for the post of municipal president and vice-president were scheduled to be held in Bhatkal on October 22, but it has been postponed indefinitely following a High Court order.
In this regard, Bhatkal Tehsildar has issued a press statement and said that a writ petition has been filed in the Bangalore High Court after which the Deputy Commissioner, at the behest of the Karnataka government, ordered to postpone the elections till the court decides.
According to reports, some people had filed a petition in the High Court seeking reservation for the Town Municipal Council in Baga Palli, Kolar, and obtained stay order from the High Court. For this reason, the election of the President and Vice-President of the Town Municipalities of all parts of Karnataka has also been stayed, which is expected to be cancelled only after the decision of the court.
Reservations were also made earlier in Bhatkal for the posts of President and Vice-President, which were later cancelled and a circular was issued to keep them in the general category.
