Bhatkal: A 64-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Khan Pathan, a resident of Maghdoom Colony in Bhatkal, has been killed in a crash involving school tempo near Eidgah.
The collision happened on Bunder Road near Eidgah diversion at about 01:30 pm on Thursday.
A source informed that the driver of a school tempo lost control of the vehicle due to which it first hit Ibrahim Khan's bike who was stationed near the road and then hit another bike, two other cars and then an electric pole dragging the elderly man along with it.
The driver Saifullah said, "Although the vehicle is new, the brakes of the vehicle stopped functioning due to which he lost the control of the vehicle thereby resulting into the accident,".
Angry locals however refused to agree with his statement saying that the accident was caused because of pressing of accelerator pedal instead of break pedal. Bhatkal police is investigating the case.
The corpse has been sent to Government Hospital for autopsy.
