Eight-year-old boy killed as container truck overturns on car near Karwar

KARWAR: An eight-year-old boy died and three others sustained serious injuries after a container truck collided with a car and overturned on it on National Highway 66 near Karwar on Monday evening.

The accident took place on a curved stretch of the highway between Binaga and Arga Ghat. According to preliminary information, the container truck reportedly went out of control and crashed into a car bearing a Maharashtra registration number that was travelling towards Karwar.

Due to the impact of the collision, the truck overturned and fell onto the car, crushing it completely and leaving the vehicle severely damaged.

Local residents and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and managed to pull out the occupants trapped inside the mangled vehicle. The eight-year-old boy died at the scene of the accident.

The other three occupants of the car, believed to be family members of the child, were critically injured in the mishap. They were shifted to the Karwar District Hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be serious.

The accident caused traffic disruption on the highway for some time as police and emergency teams carried out rescue operations and cleared the wreckage.

Karwar traffic police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
