Eight killed, seven injured in KSRTC Bus and Goods vehicle collision in Haliyal

Karwar - Eight persons died and seven were seriously injured in a road accident involving a KSRTC bus and a goods vehicle at Kesorolli on the Karwar-Belgaum State highway in Haliyal taluk on Sunday.
Seven persons, including a pregnant woman and two children, both aged two, were killed on the spot and another died in hospital.
According to reports, 15 persons were travelling by the goods vehicle to their native place Garadolli. There was a head-on collision with the bus when the goods vehicle driver tried to avoid a pothole on the road. The bus was going towards Dharwad from Dandeli.
The goods vehicle driver did not notice the bus coming in the opposite direction, it is said.
The victims were from Garadolli, Kyatanagera, Rayapattana and Kesorolli village. They have been identified as Ganapati Balundri Walekar (60), Sharada Krishna Mavalangi (53), Netra Shivaji Karanjekar (2), Vinuta Prakash Fernandez (2), Chimanu Somu Janakar (51), Yashoda Gudu Malangi (40), Sulochana Prakash Fernandez (31), and Clara Bastanv Siddi (31).
Among the injured are Remant Lorenz D'Souza, Nagendra Maruti Mogri, Duming Mote Siddi, and Jakin Malatesh Naik.
Five persons who were seriously injured were taken to KIMS, Hubli. Of them, the condition of three persons is said to be serious. The other injured are being treated at the government hospital at Haliyal.
The driver of the goods vehicle, Sanju Gustin Kamrekar, is absconding. Meanwhile, Suneel Hegde, local MLA, and KPCC president R.V. Deshpande visited the spot separately and announced compensation to the injured persons and the next of kin of the dead.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has expressed grief over the death of eight persons in the road accident.
The Chief Minister condoled the deaths and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each to the families of the dead and Rs. 25,000 each to the injured.
