Earthquake measuring 5.7 on Richter Scale hits Afghanistan-Pakistan region, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi: Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR this evening with an epicentre in Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan. According to the information received so far, its intensity has been measured to 5.7 on the Richter Scale. The tremors of the quake were also felt in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Eastern Uzbekistan. Apart from DELHI-NCR, tremors were felt in Poonch of Jammu and Kashmir. No damage has been reported from anywhere.
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake was recorded in Sumatra Island in Indonesia at a depth of 10 km on Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said there were no immediate reports of damage and that there was no potential for tsunami, reported Reuters.
In a separate incident, seismologists’ in Palghar district, Maharashtra are bewildered by a series of strange earthquakes. A two-year-old girl died when three consecutive earthquakes hit Talsari Taluka of Palghar on Friday. According to a report by ANI, three earthquakes measuring 4.1, 3.6 and 3.5 on the Richter scale hit the district on Friday at 2:06 pm, 3:53 pm and 4:57 pm respectively.
As per the reports by National Center of Seismology (NCS), the region has been experiencing such tremors constantly since November last year and so far more than 10 earthquakes have been reported in the Talsari Taluka. To monitor the quake, a temporary field station was installed at Vedanta hospital in the Palghar last year in December. Later, two more temporary field stations were installed at Dongripada (near Ashagarh) and Talasari in Palghar last month.
