DyCM Dr. G Parameshwara says Indira Canteen food samples will be sent for lab testing every week

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday rubbished reports which claimed that food being served in Indira canteen is ‘poisonous’.
“Have asked the commissioner to submit a report to me, taking samples from all 198 wards to get it examined from the lab. Some reports said it (food served in Indira Canteen) is poisonous, it cannot be poisonous. We cannot be feeding poisonous food to people” he said.
Parameshwara’s remarks came after reports surfaced that the food being served in Indira Canteen is ‘unfit for human consumption’.
Parameshwara further added that samples will be collected every week and will be sent to laboratory for testing to clear the doubts and confusions of common people.
“We have already sent 33 samples, soon as the reports will come, it will eliminate confusion and doubts regarding the quality of food” Parameshwara said.
He said that in some canteens there was a strict warning to maintain cleanliness without cleanliness.
Indira Canteen is a food subsidization programme being operated by the government of Karnataka. The programme was aunched in August 2017 to provide meals at subsidized rates.
