Dubai Police to get tough on beggars

Dubai: Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, on Thursday launched an anti-begging campaign under the title ‘Battle Begging’.
The campaign includes a comprehensive awareness programme to continue after Eid Al Fitr under the supervision and regulation of Colonel Mohammad Rashid Bin Suraie, director of tourism security, and Colonel Mohammad Saeed Al Fatshi, Head of Public Relations, on controlling begging and controlling while educating the community on the practice.
Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, said in a statement that the nation has provided decent livelihood channels for the needy to prevent begging. He also pointed out that begging to gain the sympathy of people during religious occasions and holidays is a criminal offence.

He called on the public to report beggars using the toll-free number 800243. Colonel Fatshi said the programme includes daily lectures in cooperation with Islamic scholars. Gulf News
