A woman police officer was again convicted by the Court of First Instance of theft while on duty and sentenced to three months in jail for stealing a sum of money in dollars, equivalent to Dh 2,000, from a traveller's wallet at Dubai International Airport. This is the second time the court examined the case. The 28-year-old Emirati sergeant earlier denied in court charges of breach of trust and embezzling money while she was on duty as a public officer. The court found her guilty again and ordered her to pay a Dh2,000 worth of fine. The officer was arrested at 2pm on August 8 at Terminal 3 of the airport. "The defendant worked at the inspection point of travellers' luggage. In case of any doubt, she would search the bags by herself. She was arrested at the departure hall after we were tipped-off that she stole some money while on duty," a police officer said. He told the prosecutor that the information, which they verified to be true, came from a reliable source. The witness added the CCTV cameras caught the defendant stealing money from a wallet left in the lost and found section. "She stole the money as shown in the camera recordings around 12:30 pm on August 5," the officer, who gave a testimony as a witness, said during investigation. When brought to questioning, the defendant admitted she stole a sum in dollars which she converted into Dh 2,000 at a money exchange outlet at the airport. Source: Khaleej Times
