Drinking water wells contaminated after underground sewage water leakage in Asarkeri

Bhatkal 22 March 2019: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Residents of at least 15 houses of Asarkeri locality of the town on Thursday claimed that their drinking water wells have been contaminated due to the inflow of Underground sewage water here. On Thursday it was found that the wells of houses belonging to Mahadev Naik, Muhammed Vasiuallah, Ganapathi Naik, Manikhanta Poojari, Shridhar Naik and others were contaminated and the color of the water was reported to have turned dark. Fishes were found dead in the well amidst stinky smell from the wells. The exact reason for the contamination of the water is yet to be ascertained. The locals alleged that the reason behind the contamination was the unscientific method of drainage work in the locality which led to the contamination. The locals urged the municipal authorities to resolve the issue at the earliest and to temporarily arrange for an alternate source of drinking water for the them until the issue is resolved.
