District officials visits Bhatkal following Sarpankatta incident

Bhatkal - 03 Oct 2011: Deputy Commissioner, Mr B N Krishnaiah and Additional Superintendent of Police, Mr Subhash Godmane visited Bhatkal following Sarpankatta incident wherein miscreants attacked a mini-lorry assuming that it is transporting cattles and injured the driver.

A delegation led by Tanzeem President, Mr Parvez Kasimji met with the visiting officials and demanded strict action against the miscreants. Speaking on the occasion he said, 'We are peace loving people, but some anti-social elements trying to spoil the peaceful atmosphere of the town. District administration should take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents especially when the festival season is approaching.'

On this occasion Bhatkal MLA Mr J D Naik, Tahsildar Mr Raju Moger, Mr S M Syed Parvez, Mr Sanaullah Gawai and other public representatives were present.

Later, Deputy Commissioner, Mr B N Krishnaiah conducted a peace meet with the Hindu leaders and appealed for peace and harmony in the town.

Speaking on this occasion, Hindu Jagran Vedike leader, Mr Gonda Naik termed the arrest of five people in connection with Sarpankatte incident as illegal and demanded immediate release of all arrested persons.

It may be noted that, five persons were arrested and charged with IPC Act 307 and 395 after the incident.
