MUMBAI: Family members of fake encounter victim Ishrat Jahan have been asked to pay for security cover by Thane police.
According to DNA reports, Mumbra police said Ishrat’s mother, Shamima Kausar have to pay three months dues of Rs 1,723 per day.
She can avail police protection if she clears the dues and pay a daily fee for future protection.
Shamima Kausar, who resides in Mumbra, claims that they can’t afford to pay Rs 1,723 per day for the round-the-clock security cover as their monthly income is only Rs 12,000.
“I have given my reply to the Mumbai police informing them that though we need security cover, we cannot afford to pay for it due to our poor financial condition,” Kausar told Deccan Chronicle.
The decision to withdraw her security was taken during a security meeting that took place on November 30 last year.
Ishrat’s mother was given police security since 2004 after the alleged fake encounter of her daughter by the Gujarat Police.
