Did the meat vendor in reality supply dog's meat or was it a planned conspiracy?

Special Editorial | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: Since past few days a rumour has been doing rounds in WhatsApp and a couple of Kannada news papers that a Muslim meat vendor residing in Ghulmi area of Bhatkal has supplied dog meat in desgise of goat meat in restaurants run by Non-Muslims. This rumour is baseless and has no relation with truth whatsoever. The news initially originated from few Kannada newpapers and the rumour was disseminated like a quick-fire on WhatsApp and the matter was presented with mischevious alterations. The police initially arrested a person in this connection but when the officials carried out investigations in this matter, they discovered that the rumour is baseless and hence the accused was released. This kind of rapid spread of false information through social media poses a growing threat to business and society and could wreak havoc. Hence, individuals are advised not to spread any information on social media before verifying the authenticity of the message. - ARF
