September 22, 2015 | Correspondent | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: Following complaints of sand being sold at exorbitant prices in Uttara Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh has issued a directive to issue fresh guidelines over fixation of sand price within a week. He announced this while chairing the District Sand Interim Committee meeting held at his office in Karwar recently. At present, sand mining is being undertaken at the identified sand blocks in the district. The quality of the sand differs from one block to another. However, the sand sellers are charging higher price from the customers. To curb this, new sand price fixation guidelines would be issued. Officials from PWD should study the issue and submit a report to the district administration on sand price fixation within a week, he said. The taluk level committees should also cooperate in this move, he added. -ARF
