DC Nakul approves sand mining in Uttara Kannada; extraction may begin next week

Karwar 23 October 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The district administration finally granted permission for Sand extraction from the water bodies of Uttara Kannda district including River Sharavati, Aganasini and Gagavali, however the extraction to begin, it would take about a week as certain procedures are yet to be completed in the regard.
Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul approved the requests of private entities to extract sand adding condition that to secure licence for extraction the entities will have to stock the first 10 loads of sand at the government's sand stock yards located at Haliyal and Yellapur.
The district administration also instructed merchants to ply sands only on tipper and lorry and warned any vehicles including Bolero, 407 and 909 found carrying sand will be seized immediately.
Instructions have also been set to install GPS on the boats that will be used for sand extraction from the water beds.
Nakul also warned that anyone found not adhering to the instructions will lose his license and will face legal action.
