Dakshina Kannada: Karavali Utsav starts from Dec 21st

Mangaluru: This year’s Karavali Utsav will commence on Dec 21st. As a part of the inauguration an attractive procession made up of various teams of artists will be taken on Friday around 3:30 pm in the afternoon from Nehru Maidan to Karavali Utsav Grounds via Lalbhag. The district in-charge minister U T Khader will be inaugurating the event in the evening at around 6 pm.
The formal function will begin at 6:30 pm and will be inaugurated by renowned music director Gurukiran. As part of the Karavali Utsav, a multitude of programmes have been organized at various locations in Mangaluru city.
Exhibition, amusement and entertainment
The exhibition to be held at the Karavali Utsav grounds at Lalbhag will be starting off on Dec 21st and will last for a period of 45 days. This exhibition will also include a variety of entertainment activities including amusement rides, shopping areas and entertainment areas for children.
Cultural programmes
This time the cultural programmes will be conducted at both, Karavali grounds and Kadri Park. Attractive programmes have been lined up which will include artists of local, state and national fame and also have cultural teams. Youth festival, laughter festival, music, dance, drama, folk and classical music programmes will be conducted.
Sports competitions
As part of the Utsav, an open men and women district level handball and lagori competition as well as sports and games on the district level for the differentially abled men and women of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
An open weightlifting completion for men and women will be held at Don Bosco Hall on Dec 29th. The winners of the sports events will be presented with certificates, commemoration and a money prize. Opportunity has been provided for interested sportsperson from school and colleges to participate at the sports events. Almost 200 competitors are expected to take part in the competition.
From Jan 22nd to 24th, a photo exhibition of Mangaluru’s history and culture will be conducted. In the same way works will be on display regarding Karavali’s contribution before the country’s independence.
Closing programme
On Jan 30th, the closing programme of Karavali Utsav will be held at Panambur beach. It will be followed by a live show by the renowned singer Manikant Kadri.
Beach festival from Jan 28th
The beach festival will be held from Jan 28th to 30th at Panambur beach. Every day in the evening there will be attractive dance completion from experience and talented dance teams and also there will be music programmes. Besides, in the morning there will be beach volleyball, demonstration in preparation of kites, sand sculpture, drum jam and other programmes will be conducted. A food festival made up of a variety and tasty food items will also be organized at Panambur beach.
