Dakshina Kannada achieves 99.85% success in pulse polio immunization drive

MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district achieved an overall 99.85% success in the four-day intensified pulse polio immunization programme that concluded on Wednesday. Pulse polio drops were administered to 1,68,223 children out of 1,68,479 children in the target age group of zero to five years in the district. Pulse polio drops were administered to 2,128 children on the final day on Wednesday, district health and family welfare officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao said. While polio drops was administered to 1,49,332 children (88.64% success) on the first day of booth activity on January 18, health workers did so to 10,736 children (6.37%) on January 19, 6,027 children (3.58%) on January 20, and 2,128 children (1.26%) on January 21 as part of door-to-door survey of left out children, especially in rural and semi-urban pockets in the district. A total of 10,020 oral polio vaccine vials were used including 8,651 vials on January 18, he said. -TOI
