Cyclone Tauktae devastation review : Revenue Minister assures compensation to the victims

Bhatkal: 18 May,2021(Bhatkallys News Bureau) Revenue Minister R Ashok arrived in the coastal districts of the state this morning to assess the destruction caused by Cyclone Tauktae. Uttar Canara District Incharge Minister Shivaram Hebar, Karwar Assembly member Rupali Naik, Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik, and Kumta MLA Dinkar Shetty were among those who accompanied him. He examined the damage in the storm-ravaged areas of Tengina Gundi Port, Hirtar, Bhatkal Port, and Talgod Beach, spoke with those who were affected, and gathered information. He told reporters after his visit that the typhoon had affected 48 villages in the coastal talukas of Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, and Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district. The storm has so far affected 107 people, who have been housed in eight relief camps. Giving details of the damage caused by the storm, he said that 176 houses were damaged in Uttara Kannada district. While 86 fishing boats and 45 fishing nets have been damaged, 3.57 hectares of farmland, more than 500 power poles and 137 transformers have also been affected by the storm. After receiving the information, he stated that it was only preliminary information, and that the details of the losses would be known in the next two to three days, and that officers from the Revenue, Horticulture, and Hescom departments would report after a thorough investigation. Compensation will be divided among the victims in compliance with disaster management principles, keeping all of these information in mind. Minister R Ashok said that those whose homes have been flooded would be compensated with Rs 10,000. Houses that have sustained less damage will receive a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh, while houses that have been entirely demolished will receive a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh within the next two days. Minister R Ashok met with taluka officers at Mini Vidhan Saudha on this occasion, after visiting various locations in Bhatkal. He then presented the family of Erpa Naik, who was killed in the recent storm, with a cheque for Rs 5 lakh.
