Cyclone Michaung: 8 Dead in Rain-related Cases; Chennai Airport Shut Till 9 AM Tomorrow

Eight rain-related deaths were reported from Chennai till Tuesday, with cyclone ‘Michaung’ expected to make landfall on the coast of Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours. Schools and offices were closed, flights halted and coastal areas evacuated. As heavy rains lashed parts of Andhra Pradesh under the influence of the severe cyclonic storm, the state government issued an alert to the eight districts of Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada. The cyclone is expected to make landfall near Bapatla on Tuesday noon, accompanied by winds reaching up to 100 kmph.
