Crackdown on plastic use begins in Bhatkal; TMC seize over 50 kg of banned plastic in its first raid

Bhatkal 19 August 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Town Municipality Council (TMC) Bhatkal on Saturday raided several shops in the market as a part of its crackdown on the use of plastic which was banned earlier this month.
Over 50 kgs of banned plastic was seized during the raids from several shops, the raid was led by TMC Health Officer Sujiya Suman. Shops between old bus stand to flower market were raided during the drive and seizure of over 50 kgs of plastic including polythene bags and other items was reported.
"This time we have only warned the shopkeepers to completely ban the use of plastic, and have let them go, if this continues we will be forced to initiate actions against them" Sujiya added while speaking to media after the raids.
Earlier on August 2, the Tahsildar of Bhatkal had ordered the ban on usage and selling of plastic from August 14 across the Bhatkal Taluka.
