Consumers rights awareness program held in Bhatkal

Bhatkal 15 March 2019:(Bhatkallys News Bureau) To mark the occasion of International consumers day, Karnataka State Legal Service in association with District Legal Service Authority Karwar, Taluka Legal Service Association Bhatkal, Lawyers Association Bhatkal, Prosecution Department and Educational Department Jointly organised a session on the awareness of Consumers right here at SGS College of Bhatkal on Friday, 15 March.
After inaugurating the event, Krishnanand K, Chief Civil Judge and JMFC Bhatkal said, “People are not aware about consumers rights, so they get easily cheated. To protect their interest Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has been set up at District, State and at National level” .
Resource person for the event, Lawyer VR Saraf addressed the gathering and said, “People can easily lodge complaint against any disputes relating to any product or service in Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission which is available at various levels. People just need to write a simple letter addressing to the commission and explain in detail about the dispute and also attach the bill or supportive documents about the product”.
He further said, “If the consumer is not satisfied with the judgement of the commission, he can then approach state, national and finally Knock the doors of Supreme court. However, within 30 days of the judgement a consumers has to approach the higher level commission.” he added.
The event was presided by Lawyers association President Kamalakar Devadiga.
Prof. Anand Devadiga welcomed the gathering while Principal of SGS BCA college Shri.Shrinath Pai delivered the vote of thanks.
On this occasion Smt.Indira Naik Assistant Prosecutor Bhatkal, Prof. Phaniyappayya Hebbar, students of SGS college and others were present during the occasion.
