Bhatkal: Chief Minister B S yediyurappa has distributed Rs 10 lakh each to the families of seven fishermen who went missing after drowning near the Maharashtra border while fishing in the Arabian Sea on December 22, 2018. Among seven fishermen, six were from Uttarkarnataka, three from Bhatkal. The compensation was distributed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa among the families of the victims in the form of a check during a state-of-the-art function at the Bianquet Hall of the Karnataka Assembly during the World Fishing Day.
It may be recalled that a search operation was carried out for several days after the sinking of this fishing boat named Soren Tribhuja but nothing came of it and this matter is still a mystery.
The boat, which went out for fishing on December 13, 2018, had seven fishermen on board, six of whom were from North Canara district out of which three of them were from Bhatkal, two from Kumta and one from Honnavar.
However, as the mystery of their disappearance has not been solved yet, the state government has declared it a special case and distributed compensation among the families of the victims.
