Commonwealth games hero of Udupi District, P Gururaj returns home

Kundapur 20 April 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) P Gururaj, the Kundapur weightlifter who won silver medal in the commonwealth games in Australia received a warm welcome from Udupi District Administration on Thursday, April 19. Gururaj was welcomed by the District Deputy Director for Sports and Youth Service Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty on behalf of Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis at the Mangaluru International Airport. He was taken to the DC's Office at Manipal in a special convoy of Government cars, where he was felicitated and was presented a memento by DC Priyanka and Zilla Panchayath CEO Shivananda Kapsi which was followed by several higher officials garlanding Gururaj. DC Priyanka later announced Gururaj to be the Brand Ambassador for the upcoming elections in the district. Both DC Francis and Shivananda praised the performance of Gururaj during the occassion and said that it was a proud moment for entire district. Gururaj won silver medal in the commonwealth games in South Africa in lifting total of 249kg in men's 56kg Category. (Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Wafa Kifa)
