Bengaluru: After the news of a lady constable, who breastfed an abandoned newborn baby to save it from starvation, went viral, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has expressed his desire to meet the selfless civil servant. Kumaraswamy stated in a tweet on June 6 that he had read a media report about Archana D S, the lady constable, and was moved by her good deed and wanted to meet and appreciate her. Commenting on the news of the CM's desire to meet her, Archana said that she was surprised that her small act has attracted a lot of attention. "I have no words to express my gratitude to the people who have shown love. I was excited and nervous to hear that he (the Chief Minister) wants to meet me", she said adding that what she did was a small act of humanity. "It shocked me to see an abandoned baby and I nursed the child like I have done for my own," she explained. She is the mother of a three-month-old child. Archana D S, a constable of the Electronic City Police Station, nursed the abandoned baby after it was brought to the station. A shopkeeper had informed the police station of the newborn infant that had been found by a rag picker at Celebrity Layout in Doddathoguru, stuffed in a plastic bag and left under a bush near a house that was under construction. Sub Inspector Nagesh R rushed to the spot and brought the baby back to the station after it was first taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. At the station, the baby was handed to Archana, who immediately breastfed the child seeing it's weak condition, thus saving it from starvation. Speaking about the child, Archana expressed her disbelief at how someone could abandon a newborn child on the streets. She then said that the baby was stable and doing well and apart from minor bruising, the child had no other injuries. She also revealed that the baby was under the care of Shishu Mandir.
