CM promises hike in reservation quota

Ahead of the State Assembly elections scheduled to be held next year, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that the government will take steps to increase the reservation quota in employment and education from the present 50% to 75%. The Chief Minister made the announcement at a programme organised by the Federation of Dalit Organisations to thank him for announcing several welfare schemes in the State Budget presented by him. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that an unanimous resolution would be passed in the State legislature seeking to increase the reservation quota to 75%. The same would be sent to the Centre for approval and further formalities, he said. Resolution

“The government will take the initiative of moving the resolution. It has to be constitutionally amended in Parliament as the Supreme Court has put a 50% cap on reservations,” Mr. Siddaramaiah said.
