CISCE ICSE Class 10, ISC Class 12 students to get less passing marks in boards

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) which recently revised the syllabus of Indian School Certificate (ISC) or class 12 has now made changes in passing marks for the board examination. According to official notice, the passing marks have been decreased for class 10 and 12 examinations but will come into effect from the academic term beginning in 2019. Here's what Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of CISCE said: "Among many recommendations made by the Inter-Board Working Group (IBWG), it was suggested that all boards in the country should have the same pass marks criteria," said Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary of CISCE. ICSE or Class 10 exam: The pass marks would be 33 per cent instead of the earlier 35 per cent. ISC or Class 12 exam: The pass marks would be 35 per cent instead of 40 per cent earlier. Reasons behind change in passing marks: The objective of this is to bring in uniformity with other boards. All the heads of the school have been asked to implement this notification from examination year 2019 and implement same in the internal examinations as well, from session 2018-19, as reported by TOI. Passing marks for other classes: For classes 9 and 10, passing marks would be 33 per cent, while for classes 11 and 12, passing marks would be 35 per cent. About CISCE: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has been so constituted as to secure suitable representation of: Government of India, State Governments/Union Territories in which there are schools affiliated to the Council, the Inter-State Board for Anglo-Indian Education, the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Heads of Anglo-Indian Schools, the Indian Public Schools' Conference, the Association of Schools for the ISC Examination and members co-opted by the Executive Committee of the Council.
