DUBAI — It sounds like a thing of fantasy; a bus, stocked to the brim with thousands of chocolates, driving around the city distributing them -for free.
But the fantasy, in this case, will be a reality for thousands of Dubai and Abu Dhabi chocolate-lovers, as the so-called “mobile chocolate factory” flies around town filled with M&Ms, Twix, Galaxy and Snickers bars.
The double-decker chocolate bus will dish out as many as 150,000 chocolate freebies to people coming onboard as it stops at key landmarks and malls in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. But it gets better, with Twitter users able to tweet requests for free delivery to offices.
The unsuspecting staff at Khaleej Times office were the first to get a sneak-peak of the bus, which stopped outside the office in Al Quoz on Thursday.
“It’s just a fun way to surprise people and make them happy,” said Nicky Barr, events director at The Bridge, which is running the promotion on behalf of the chocolate brands.
The vintage bus is an old Routemaster from London, dating back to 1967. It has been renovated extensively to take on its new life as the mobile chocolate factory with bus driver Edwin, happily driving the bounty around town.
“It’s a lot of fun because people are surprised when they know we are giving away a lot of chocolate for free,” he said.
The campaign is expected to last until January 16. To keep track of the bus as it travels around town, or tweet to get it to your office, follow the Twitter hashtag: #chocolatebus. — muaz@khaleejtimes.com
