New Delhi: The Indian Premier League, one of the most followed sporting even across the globe, is all set to welcome to previous champions – Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore – in the competition from 2018 season onwards.
As per a report in Dainik Jagaran, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri confirmed that CSK and RR will replace RPS and GL in the next campaign, as both have complemented their respective 2-year bans.
Johri stated, "The ban on Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will be lifted next year. Therefore, both teams will return in the next edition of the IPL. The BCCI is in no mood to increase the number of teams in the IPL. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will replace Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions in the next edition of the IPL."
Johri also stated that new fan parks will be created for fans, who can enjoy the thrilling T20 action in the best possible manner despite not being in the stadium.
"To increase the popularity of IPL in small towns and cities, fan parks will be created in such areas. Every match of the IPL is viewed by 20 lakhs people online."
The return of CSK will specifically bring delight to MS Dhoni fans, who hasn't had the smoothest of two seasons playing for the Pune franchise.
