Condemning the functioning style of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the Students’ Struggle Committee at the varsity under the aegis of All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) have given a call for voluntary bandh of VTU engineering colleges on September 1. S.H. Hanumanth, AIDSO district secretary and Shivakumar Sonna, joint convenor, VTU SSC, addressing presspersons in Kalaburagi on Saturday said that introduction of Choice Based Credit System(CBCS) has added to the plight of students studying under the earlier system. Students were forced to write 20 exams in 50 days while the university delayed announcing the results. Ultimately students suffer, he added. Students were forced to pay the fee for the next semester before the results were announced and the results of revaluation were released at mid-night, a day prior to examination. The students also opposed the hike in examination fee, which has been revised from ₹ 600 to ₹1200. Though the fault was with the University’s management, authorities passed the burden onto the students, he added. Mr. Sonna demanded that the 2010 scheme should be considered as a special case and the ‘year back’ and CBCS system should be withdraw. The University should expedite valuation process and ensure timely declaration of results, the students said.
