Bengaluru, May 30: Women can travel for free throughout Karnataka state in government buses regardless of whether they belong to BPL or APL card category. This information was given by transport minister Ramalinga Reddy. After holding a meeting with the officials at the KSRTC office at Shantinagar in the city, Reddy spoke to the media and said, “In our election manifesto, we did not mention APL or BPL. So women can travel without paying any ticket charges on KSRTC buses throughout the state. Reddy also said that I will submit a report in this regard to chief minister Siddaramaiah. He will take the final action. In the meeting that was held at Shantinagar KSRTC office, the officials appealed to the minister that this free gift will cost Rs 3200 crore yearly to the corporation. Already four corporations of the KSRTC are running under loss and it will be convenient, if the government gives grants for the same.
