Dubai is all set to dazzle the world with its iconic New Year’s Eve Gala and a spectacular fireworks display that will light up Burj Khalifa once again.
Hosted by Emaar Properties, this year’s festivities are expected to break 2012’s record of 1.7 million visitors at Downtown Dubai.
This year’s gala will be differentiated by 10 unprecedented fireworks acts that are expected to mesmerise spectators.
With several viewing points for visitors in Downtown Dubai, the New Year’s celebration will also be streamed live on Youtube.com/DowntownDubai, reaching millions of online audiences in real time.
Emaar is also promoting active online engagement with the spectators encouraged to upload photographs and videos of the New Year’s Eve celebrations on social networks, using the hashtag #BeThere.
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director, Emaar Properties, said: “The New Year’s Eve Gala at Burj Khalifa enjoys iconic status globally and underlines Dubai’s reputation as the must-visit destination to usher in the New Year.
“Dubai’s gala at Downtown Dubai will significantly add to the city’s civic pride, boost the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors, and salute the city’s win to host the World Expo 2020, with visitors expected from all over the world.”
He added: “Emaar’s New Year’s celebration is a salute to the positivity, hope, and cheer that Dubai brings to the world.
“Through the gala, we are inviting the world to welcome the New Year in one of the most dynamic cities.”
He revealed that this year, the fireworks display will be extra special with 10 spectacular effects, some rising higher than 1 km, “which not only salute our nation and the city, but also the design of Burj Khalifa.”
In addition to several vantage-viewing galleries, the public can enjoy the fireworks from the central Burj Park, which will wear a festive ambience with a number of temporary kiosks for food and beverage and New Year merchandise.
The event has already recorded strong buzz globally with robust advance booking for hotel rooms in Downtown Dubai.
Starting with a dramatic display of effects racing up to the pinnacle of Burj Khalifa, 828 metres high, the display will then salute the nation with the green, red, and white hues of the UAE National Flag.
Flowers in the colours of the national flag will cascade down the tower, before silver pearls will burst from the pinnacle of Burj Khalifa.
In a gesture of the warm welcome that Dubai extends to the world, the next act will witness thousands of amethysts launched in every direction and filling the sky.
Integrating shades of amber and with silver illumination flowing down the tower in gentle elegance, the next act is a tribute to Burj Khalifa and the global collaboration it has promoted.
The other acts include elegant green and gold willow comets, silhouetting the vertical lines of the building; and a recreation of the design inspiration of the tower, with fireworks evolving like petals and wrapping it up the tower much like the Hymenocallis desert flower, which inspired the design of Burj Khalifa.
The grand finale will be a true masterpiece in fireworks display with every direction being lit up dramatically and a golden lattice being formed across the sky.
Rainbow effects will fill all over Downtown Dubai as Dubai ushers in 2014.
