They can appear for the exams in 2014-15 academic year Bangalore University has decided to provide a "one-time opportunity” to students who were unsuccessful in obtaining a degree as they failed to clear one or more papers during the course of their education. This includes students from all streams (Science, Commerce, Arts and Engineering) and stages (undergraduate and post graduate).Former students will be permitted to appear for the exams in the odd and even semesters of the 2014-15 academic year. Making the announcement here on Tuesday, BU Vice-Chancellor Prof B Thimme Gowda said that the opportunity was open to all alumni of BU since its inception. However, they will be attempting the papers for the current syllabus, irrespective of when they completed their course. A necessary criterion for them to give the paper is that they must have attended college for the entire duration of their course. Also, a student can appear for only 50 per cent of the number of papers prescribed for the course, which means, if a person has not appeared for any exam in the final year, he or she will not be eligible to write the exam now. "We had earlier decided to give a chance only to students who were admitted after the year 2000. However, there were several requests to extend it to all students. Hence a decision to this effect was approved both by the University Academic Council and the Syndicate,” Prof Gowda said. The university will shortly announce details about the exam fee, schedule for payment of fees and other details. Colleges receive affiliation Bangalore University had issued show-cause notices to certain BEd colleges warning them of disaffiliation. While some colleges replied to the notice and some did not reply at all, a few of them approached the High Court. Those colleges which failed to reply lost their affiliation. Those colleges which replied to the notice were given a second chance and a committee was constituted to inspect these colleges. At the University Academic Council and Syndicate meeting held on Tuesday, it was decided to renew the affiliation of six colleges that earlier were at the risk of losing it. As many as 10 colleges have brought a stay order from the High Court in response to the show-cause notices issued to them. The affiliation of these colleges are likely to continue for the present academic year. "We will not intervene in those cases. The High Court will decide the matter,” the vice chancellor said. Last date extended The university has extended the last date for submission of affiliation application (permanent and fresh) to BEd courses and also for fresh affiliation to BEd courses for the academic year 2014-15. The last date for submission without fine is February 12 and February 20 with a fine of up to Rs 1, 000.
