BMJD: Career & Skills Development Seminar

A career and skills development seminar was held by the Career Guidance Committee of BMJD at India Club, Dubai on 27th December 2012 from 8:00 PM onwards. This seminar is one of many such activities conducted by the CGC of BMJD as part of the Career and Skills development initiative of the committee.
The program was attended by more than 70 professionals of Bhatkal Community based in Dubai and surrounding Emirates and was presided by Mr. Ruknuddin Basha. The chief guest was Mr. Naeem Fekri. Mr. Adel Samhan and Mr. Khalid Al-Hammadi, from Etisalat, Dubai were the guests of honor.
The program which was compered by Mr. Mohammed Yusuf Bermaver consisted of two sessions. The first session was on “Achieving Professional Excellence“ by Mr. Naeem Fekri. The second session was conducted by Mr. Mohamed Anas Seddiqui, on ” e- Marketing: The key to internet commerce.”
The program was preceded by a sumptuous dinner and started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Maulana Shakeib Ahmed Shabandari, a post graduate in Islamic Studies with specialization in the science of Hadith from the Al-Azhar Islamic University, Cairo, Egypt and the Nadwatul Ulema Lucknow.
Mr. Ruknuddin Basha welcomed the guests and gave an elaborate introduction of the Bhatkal community. He mentioned that the Nawayaths trace their origin to Arabia and they form social associations wherever they go in significant numbers to collaborate and cooperate with each other in matters of common social concern as well as to provide humanitarian support to the needy back home. He also mentioned that the town also has large religious and conventional educational institutions that are managed by the community itself.
Mr. Mohammed Sameer presented the introduction of the Chief guest and first speaker, Mr. Naeem Fekri who holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona and an MBA in Marketing. He joined Etisalat in 1994 as a planning Engineer and quickly climbed the corporate ladder to reach his current position of Vice President in a short span of time due to his exceptional capabilities, dynamism and leadership qualities.
Mr. Naeem presented a unique perspective on achieving professional excellence that kept the audience at awe during the entire session. He emphasized on characteristics like team spirit, honesty, transparency and feedback as the key to professional excellence. He said that a task can only be performed well if you take complete ownership of it. He highlighted the lessons found in the life of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and Caliph Umar ibn Al-Kattab which provide the best guidance to tackle so many situations in personal as well as professional lives. He mentioned that God is the ultimate boss and for as long as you remember that you are finally accountable to him, you will strive to do ones best with honesty and integrity due to which one will definitely excel professionally.
The first session was concluded with the presentation of the memento to the chief guest Mr. Naeem Fikri by Mr. Abdul Rahman Seddiqui and was followed by a tea break.
The second session started with the introduction of the speaker, Mr. Mohamed Anas Seddiqui, by Mr. Taha Muallim, Vice-Convener of the Career Guidance Committee of BMJD. Mr. Mohamed Anas Siddiqui, son of Mr. Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, completed his Bachelors in Engineering from BMS college of Engineering, Bangalore and started his career with Infosys, Bangalore as a software developer. He then moved to the US for his MBA in Marketing, from Penn State University. After completing his MBA, he joined a start-up company called Ad-Smart in Pennsylvania before he moved on to Google as an Ad Management Consultant. He has around 4 years of experience in this modern field of Online Marketing.
Mr. Anas’s presentation on online marketing was extremely informative and provided to the audience the whole world of online marketing, its benefits and advantages over conventional advertisement methodologies in a nutshell. He clearly illustrated how the internet provides a platform for focused and targeted marketing with minimal cost and maximum return on investment or ROI. He mentioned that online marketing uses search engines, emails and social networking platforms like Facebook for marketing purposes to reach the maximum number of potential customers with a focus on those who have a high probability of purchasing the advertised product or service.
Towards the end of the second session, Mr. Yaser Kashimji presented a memento to Mr. Anas Seddiqui. The program came to its conclusion with Mr. Shariar Khateeb, Convener-Career Guidance Committee giving the vote of thanks in which he thanked the speakers for their wonderful presentations, the guest and attendees as well as the members of the CGC for their efforts in making the program a grand success.
