Bhatkal - 21 Oct 2011: A powerful blast rocked house in Murdeshwar on Friday morning at around 11:00 am. The blast was so powerful that, the roof of the house was blown-off and several nearby houses were also damaged. According to the house owner, Mr Raghavendra Gudigar, the blast occurred due to cylinder burst and two persons were wounded as a result of the blast. The injured have been identified as Jyothi (45) and Umesh Gudigar (50). They were taken to RNS Hospital and later shifted to Manipal.
As the news of explosion spread, police officials and Tahsildar rushed to the blast site and inspected the area. When Tahsildar asked the owner about the cylinder which caused the blast, the owner showed him a cylinder kept outside the house which was in a very good condition. By looking at the cylinder nobody can say that the blast was caused by that cylinder.
According to the local people, the house owner is trying to hide something. They alleged that the blast may be the result of crude bomb because the intensity of the blast was so strong that the roof of the house was completely blown-off and several nearby houses were also damaged but the top cover of the cylinder which was tied with a thin thread was intact. And by looking at the gas stove it seems that, it was deliberately burnt outside the house by putting kerosene on it. A match box was also found near the stove.
Many people raised doubt that the house owner may be involved in making crude bomb, which by mistake went off and to divert the attention of police he had framed the story of cylinder blast. At this moment it is premature to comment on this, only a thorough investigation will reveal the truth.
It may be recalled that, on 5th September 2010, two persons died when they were manufacturing a crude bomb in Belke village of Bhatkal allegedly to scare pigs, which were damaging their crops. And on 10th October 2009, one person was arrested for illegally possessing explosives worth Rs 1.31 lakh from a house in Bangarmakki.
