Bengaluru, Dec 25: The BJP high command has announced Kota Srinivas Poojary's nomination as the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, marking a significant move six months after the party's electoral defeat. The appointment received approval on Monday, December 25.

Kota Srinivas Poojary brings prior experience to the role, having previously served as the Leader of Opposition in the Council during 2018-19 and as the Leader of the House in the Council from 2019 to 2023.

Sunil Valyapure, a contender for the position, has been appointed as the Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Council. Additionally, N. Ravikumar, a seasoned MLC, assumes the role of chief whip in the Council.

Aravind Bellad, who actively sought positions as the president of the BJP unit in Karnataka and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, has been designated as the Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.

Doddanagouda G Patil, a senior MLA from Hunugund in Bagalkot district, takes on the responsibility of chief whip for the party in the Assembly.

These crucial appointments form a new, complete team for the BJP in Karnataka. The inclusion of Sunil Kumar and Aravind Bellad, contenders for top party positions, reflects the party's strategic decisions. However, those who openly rebelled against the party, such as Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, did not receive any appointments.
