Tumkuru: In a press conference held in Turuvekere on Monday, V Somanna, the nominated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Tumkur Lok Sabha constituency, addressed the media regarding the exclusion of MP Anantkumar Hegde from the party's ticket allocation this election cycle.

Somanna attributed Hegde's omission from the ticket to his persistent advocacy for altering the Constitution, which had garnered significant attention and criticism. Reflecting on Hegde's tenure as the Member of Parliament for Uttar Kannada, Somanna expressed disappointment over the lack of substantial development initiatives undertaken during his six-term tenure.

"Anantkumar Hegde's focus on issues related to Hindutva and his repeated calls for constitutional amendments overshadowed his contributions to developmental projects," Somanna remarked during the press briefing. He further highlighted Hegde's minimal involvement in public engagements and party organizational activities following the 2019 elections.

Somanna emphasized that Hegde's controversial statements regarding constitutional amendments had caused embarrassment to the BJP on multiple occasions. These factors collectively influenced the party's decision to refrain from nominating Hegde for the upcoming elections in Uttara Kannada.
