NEW DELHI: "BJP doesn't understand English properly," Karnataka minister Ramalinga Reddy today said after the saffron party objected to a letter written by the state DGP inviting opinion on withdrawing cases against 'innocent' people belonging to minority community. "BJP doesn't understand English properly. It's not circular, just a reminder. Minority leaders represented that some false cases registered against minorities. IG sent letter to SPs, gave reminder that's all," Reddy said, according to ANI On Friday, a Times of India report had said that Karnataka DGP had sent a letter marked "urgent" and a reminder, written on 22.12.2017 and 02.01.2018, respectively, to SPs and commissioners of different districts. The letter and its subsequent reminder had sought opinion on withdrawing cases against 'innocent' people belonging to minority community who had allegedly participated in the communal riots in the last five years. BJP and several Hindu organisations accused the state government of bias and said that the letter will create "insecurity" among the majority community. It is clearly mentioned that only cases filed against the minority community will be withdrawn. It would further create insecurity among the majority community which is facing the wrath of the police. It is a wrong on the part of the government to take sides and it will be opposed tooth and nail," said BJP leader Rajesh Nayak. The district of Uttara Kannada had seen widespread riots last December, following the death of a youth Paresh Mehta. The accused of the murder are yet to be apprehended. Uttara Kannada's BJP president alleged that several innocent members of the majority community were arrested and his party will intensify the protest against the government's "move" to withdraw cases against a particular community.
