Bhatkal: Zilla Aranya Hakku Horrata Samiti announces "Karwar chalo movement" for granting of rights on encroached forest lands

Bhatkal 25 January 2019:(Bhatkallys News Bureau) Condemning the harassment of forest officials and other government authorities in rejecting numerous applications on granting rights to people on encroached land, the 'Zilla Aranya Hakku Horrata Samiti' on Thursday organised a meeting in a private hotel of Bhatkal. Speaking at the meeting the Horata Samithi president Ravindra Naik said, “Several people across the district reside in encroached lands for the several years now. They are poor and cannot afford to own land. However, the Government as well as the forest officials harass them while having no mercy on them.” Among 8819 applications applied till December 2018, about 6,964 applications have been rejected by the government from granting the rights on the encroached land. Which is about 78.84 % of applications that have been rejected till now.” Naik added. Condemning this, the district president announced that the Samithi will organise "Karwar Chalo Movement" and requested at least one member of a family to participate in the moment, to show solidarity in the movement. Samiti Taluka president Ram Moger, Ganapati Naik, Dinakar Moger, Suleman, Rizwan, Muneer and others were present in the meeting. (Bhatkallys News Bureau/Rizwan Gangavali)
