Bhatkal, Udupi Police arrest for illegally smuggling gold worth over 61 lac

Kundapur/Bhatkal 18 December 2019: In a joint operation conducted by Bhatkal subdivision police and police from Kundapur, under the direction of Udupi district superintendent of police (SP) Nisha James, detained three men while allegedly Smuggling gold worth Rs. 61.47 lakhs in train here on Tuesday, December 17.
The detained accused have been identified as Muhammed Ismail, Raif, and Syed Ummer from Bhatkal.
Based on the tip-off on the information of gold being smuggled in train from Ernakulum, police personnel at Kundapur, Byndoor, and Bhatkal railway stations were deployed. At Byndoor railway station 253 grams of gold coins and ornaments were recovered from Ismail. At Bhatkal 1.166 kg gold ornaments were seized from Raif and 213 grams of gold Syed Ummer.
A total of Gold ornaments weighing 1.633 kg worth Rs 61.47 lac was seized during the operation.
Under the direction of Udupi district SP Nisha and with the instructions of Bhatkal ASP Nikhil and Kundapur ASP Hariram Shankar, the Byndoor circle police inspector (CPI) Suresh Nayak, Udupi CPI Manjunath, Kundapur sub-inspector Harish R Naik and others successfully conducted the operation.
