Bhatkal TMC swings into action; begins work to repair pothole after reports appear in Bhatkallys.com

Bhatkal 18 October 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal Town Municipal Council on Thursday swung into action and began the repair work of pothole near Bhatkal fish market, after reports appeared in Bhatkallys.com in how the 'repair work' done on Wednesday had made the pothole even more dangerous for pedestrians and bikers.
Bhatkallys.com had earlier last week reported how a dangerous pothole was obstructing traffic and also posing danger to the lives of pedestrians and bikers especially during night hours, which questioned the ability of the local administration to deal such serious issues on priority.

The local body however 'repaired' the pothole on Wednesday much to the dissent of the local shopkeepers who claimed that the 'repair' work had made things worst as the concrete brick installed had failed to bridge the gap of the pothole and as much as approx 7-8 inches gap remains to be covered.
A local shop-keeper Shabbir Kundunguda, had added “They have covered the pothole in an incomplete manner and have made it more dangerous, now the pedestrians and bikers during night will assume that the pothole has been repaired and will walk/ride over the brick without knowing that the other part of the pothole is yet to be covered”.
Bhatkallys.com had then spoke to TMC Engineer Umesh, whose careless attitude towards the incident had raised our eyebrows. We then had warned the Engineer of taking the issue to higher authorities demanding action against him, which was followed by another report on our website on Wednesday.
Bhatkal: Repaired pothole now ‘more dangerous’
The impact of the report paid off and the TMC has started the work for a complete repair of the pothole, on Thursday evening.
A Private contractor who has received the tender for the repair work added, "I was informed to make one concrete brick and fix it here four days back, we did it yesterday. But late in the evening yesterday, we again received calls to immediately fix this pothole completely and to do whatever it take to fix it on priority. They cited media pressure behind doing so".
Interestingly, the Engineer was for last three months claiming that the concrete brick had been ordered for construction, whereas the contractor has a different story to tell.
Better late than never, the TMC finally has taken measures to curb the issue in the best of interest of the citizens which needs to be appreciated.
