Bhatkal: Thousands gather for protests against charging of section 395 IPC on Govinda and Krishna Naik

Bhatkal 04 Oct 2017:Thousands of members of Namdhari Sangha community took to the streets of Bhatkal demonstrating their anger over the imposition on section 395 of IPC on Govinda Naik and Krishna Naik, who were arrested last month for vandalizing the TMC complex earlier last month.
Section 395 deals with punishment for dacoity and this angered the Namdhari community since this will make their bail application almost impossible to get through. The community also submitted a memorandum to Bhatkal Assistant commissioner (AC) demanding immediate withdrawal of the section from the charges.
The protestors demanded to meet Deputy Commissioner and Superintended of Police Karwar district, but due to their unavailability, Tahsildar and Additional SP dealt with the protestors and tried to convince them.
The protest began at 10.00 am in the morning and concluded at 02.00 pm outside the office of Bhatkal Tahsildar and demanded immediate release of both of their leaders Govinda Naik and Krishna Naik.
Former state minister Shivanand Naik, Former MLA JD Naik, Congress Block president Vittal Naik, Devadiga community president Parmeshwar Devadiga, Auto Rickshaw union president Venkatesh Naik, and other Namdhari community leaders also spoke at the protest and demanded release of both Govinda and Krishna Naik.
