Bhatkal: Sunil Naik visits Jalikodi lake, assures residents of solving their issue

Bhatkal 01 June 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik on Thursday visited Jalikodi lake of Bhatkal and inspected the lake after receiving complaints about problems faced by the locals as the water of the lake don't flow back to the sea which in return create drinking water problems to the people residing nearby.
For the past ten years, as the river delta were filled with the silts, the sea water that entered the lake couldn’t flow back to the sea. As a result the lake water and also the drinking water wells nearby turned salty and created drinking water issues to the locals. The salt water also had an adverse effect on the agricultural land and ruined the cultivated crops of the farmers.
However, the locals also feared that the blocked river delta with the silts could also result in flooding during the rainy season.
Responding to the requests by the locals, MLA Sunil Naik inspected the place and instructed the concerned department officials to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Venugopal Shastri, Ravi Naik, Purandar Moger, Ganapaiah Gonda, Harish Naik, Mahesh Moger, Ganapati Naik and others were present along with Sunil Naik during the visit.
