Bhatkal: Sultan Youth Association felicitates academic toppers

Bhatkal, Jan 16 – Twenty-five achievers in the academic field were felicitated at the SYWA Academic Excellence Awards – 2019 function held here yesterday. Students associated with Sultan Youth Welfare Association (Regd) who have scored 80 per cent and above marks in SSLC, PU-2 and degree, and those who had completed hifz, aalimiat and fazilat were given cash prizes, trophies and certificates for their achievements.
Held under the auspices of the Sultan Youth Welfare Association, one of Bhatkal’s leading youth and sports organisations, the well-organised programme commenced with a qiraat by Moulvi Mohammed Arfa Ibn Ilyas Madikal followed by na’at by Mohammed Hassan ibn Abdul Qayyum Siddibapa.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Javeed Jamil, head of Chair in Islamic Studies & Research, Yenepoya Deemed to be University, Mangaluru asserted, “Besides empowering themselves educationally, something that is absolutely essential, Muslims should strive to empower themselves politically, ideologically and economically as well.” Citing statistics, he informed that among the hundred top companies in India, only four were headed by Muslims. He also urged new graduates to create business ventures and start-ups.
Moulana Muhammed Ilyas Nadvi, general secretary, Moulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi Islamic Academy, Bhatkal, observed: “Counselling for students in choosing their career should be taken up from middle school itself. I urge the youth and sports NGOs to include this in their plans.”
Another guest, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Bhavikatti, principal, Anjuman Institute of Management and Technology, Bhatkal, spoke on the need for students to enrol themselves for higher studies in this era of super specialities. Abdulla Kola, president, Sultan Masjid Management Committee, and Syed Parvez, president, Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal were also present on the dais.
Aftab Husain Kola, SYWA president, presided over the function. Earlier, Syed Parvez, office-bearer of SYWA, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests while Moulana Abubaker Tonse, general secretary, SYWA, profiled the organisation. Moulana Abdul Noor Fakardey, convenor of SYWA Awards Organising Committee, compered the programme and hosted the Awards segment. Yunus Motia, convenor, SYWA Education Committee, was also present on the occasion.
